Rajaputhiran is a Tamil-language action drama film released in theatres on 16th May 2025. The film stars Arya in the lead role, along with Priya Bhavani Shankar as the female lead. Directed by S. Ravi Kumar, the movie was promoted as a powerful story of courage, justice, and royal pride. The title Rajaputhiran means "son of a king", and the film is about a brave young man who stands up against injustice in his village.

The film was produced by Sri Venkateshwara Productions and distributed by Red Giant Movies. It had a lot of expectations before release because of Arya’s fan following and the movie's action-packed trailer. The music, composed by D. Imman, was also liked by the audience, especially the theme song.

Rajaputhiran received mixed reviews from critics. Some people praised Arya’s performance and the action scenes. Others felt that the story was old-fashioned and too predictable. On IMDb, the film got a rating of 6.2 out of 10. Tamil movie websites like Behindwoods and Indiaglitz gave it around 2.5 to 3 stars out of 5. Overall, the audience response was okay in the first weekend, but it dropped in the following days.

Box Office India Net Collection:

The India net collection is the total money the movie earned from ticket sales in India, after removing GST (Goods and Services Tax).

Rajaputhiran collected around ₹14 crore net in India in the first 10 days. The opening day was slow, with about ₹2 crore, and it picked up slightly on Saturday and Sunday. But the collections started dropping from Monday onwards. The film did better in B and C centres (smaller towns) than in major cities like Chennai or Coimbatore.

Box Office India Gross

The India gross collection means the total money made from ticket sales before removing taxes.

Rajaputhiran earned about ₹16.5 crore gross in India in 10 days. This includes revenue from all Tamil Nadu cities and some limited screens in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The film could not perform very well in urban multiplexes but had average occupancy in single screens in rural areas.

Worldwide Gross Collection:

The movie had a limited release outside India. It was released in countries like Malaysia, Singapore, UAE, and a few screens in the US and Canada. The overseas performance was not strong. It earned around ₹3.5 crore from overseas markets.

So, the total worldwide gross collection of Rajaputhiran after 10 days was around ₹20 crore. This includes both the Indian and overseas box office.

Day-Wise Box Office Collection:

On the first day, Rajaputhiran earned ₹2 crore net in India and around ₹2.4 crore gross. The second day (Saturday) showed slight growth with ₹2.5 crore net and ₹2.9 crore gross. On Sunday, the film earned ₹3 crore net and ₹3.4 crore gross, which was the highest day for the movie.

From Monday onwards, the film started dropping. On Monday, it earned ₹1.7 crore net and ₹1.9 crore gross. On Tuesday, it collected ₹1.2 crore net and ₹1.4 crore gross. Wednesday was weaker with ₹1 crore net and ₹1.1 crore gross. Thursday also stayed low with ₹0.8 crore net and ₹0.9 crore gross.

In the second weekend, Friday earned ₹0.7 crore net, Saturday collected ₹0.9 crore net, and Sunday ended with ₹1 crore net. So the total net in India after 10 days reached ₹14 crore, while the gross in India was ₹16.5 crore. The worldwide total, including overseas, was ₹20 crore.

Budget of Rajaputhiran:

The total budget of Rajaputhiran was estimated to be ₹22 crore. This includes the cost of production, actor salaries, direction, locations, and technical work. The movie was also promoted through posters, trailers, and music events. The cost for promotion and marketing was around ₹4 crore, so the overall cost came to ₹22 crore.

Since the movie had action scenes, songs shot in scenic locations, and some VFX (visual effects), the budget was on the higher side for a mid-range Tamil film.

Hit or Flop Verdict:

To decide whether a movie is a hit or flop, we compare how much money it made to how much it cost. If the film makes more than its budget from theatres, it is called a hit. If it earns less, it is a flop.

In the case of Rajaputhiran, the total budget was ₹22 crore. The film earned ₹14 crore net in India and ₹20 crore worldwide gross. This means it could not recover its full cost from box office collections. It may earn some money later from satellite rights and OTT platforms, but the theatrical run was not strong.

So, the final result is that Rajaputhiran is a Flop at the box office. The collections were not enough to cover the budget. The film did not connect well with a large audience, and word of mouth was weak.

Rajaputhiran was a film that had the potential to be a success because of its strong lead actor, action scenes, and emotional story. But it did not meet the expectations at the box office. The first weekend was average, but after that, the collections dropped quickly. The film’s traditional storyline and lack of freshness affected its performance.

The movie earned ₹14 crore net in India and ₹20 crore worldwide, while the budget was ₹22 crore. That’s why it is considered a flop. It might still find some viewers on OTT platforms, but in theatres, the movie did not make a big impact.
